Of Moons and Monsters by Willow Hadley

4.0

As a fan of why choose, I was veryyyyy interested in this story. After finishing, I plan on reading book 2 in the series but I was left feeling like something was a little bit missing (but don't ask me what lol).

Isla is our FMC - her life has been kind of a drag and living/rubbing elbows among immortals has her pretty grateful for her mortality. Her human life (with a brief stint dating a loser wolf shifter) has seen her spending time in foster care, she recognizes that the immortal beings that live around her in a contemporary earth-setting is the preferred existence.

What she's not ready for is a random choice that separates her from her best friend and finds her eventually sent to live with a group of shifter males who are as equally as shocked to find her with them as she is to be there.

I can't say much more without giving any spoilers, but I'll say this - if I were ever to be taken against my will, let me please invoke the spirt of Isla against my captors, the luck of not being treated ab*sively by said captors, and find myself eventually deposited amongst the breath-taking and incredibly caring male she finds herself with. There's a language barrier but honestly, y'all? Ursula from Disneys Little Mermaid said it best when she said "don't underestimate the importance of body language."

If you like:
- strong and scrappy FMCs who recognize they have options for easier lives but refuse to sacrifice for what they think is the most important thing: humanity
- why choose romance with distinctly different approaches from the males in said why choose towards the female (and then seeing how the "oh f* it" moment hits)
- somewhat of a mystery about why there was a forced-taking of the FMC to this magical world where she's ultimately better off than where she started but without really knowing why..
.. you'll enjoy this story. I liked where this started, where it went, and ultimately how it ended and although I'm not aching to jump to book 2, there is 100% a cliffy that will have you thinking about this one once its over.
