I liked this ok! It was definitely a page turner I read in 2-3 sittings. I liked Barbara. The pink paint on the cover makes sense now.  The ending was
satisfying. Escaping that horrible family makes total sense, and I like that the female detective let her get away with that
. I thought the other rich characters from the main rich family were pretty insufferable and hard to have interest in or sympathy for, especially the mom. What bizarre weirdos to have a giant estate you throw huge drunken parties at right above a summer camp that you own but mostly hate and disengage from. Super irresponsible to do around kids and I don’t know why parents would send kids there?? I'm surprised worse things haven't happened.

I thought at times the story dragged a bit (all the stuff where the female detective was making herself lunch and driving got repetitive real fast). Once all was revealed,
I suppose I’m surprised that the rich family went to all that trouble to pretend Bear went missing instead of drowning. They really seemed to hate Bear’s mom, so why emotionally protect her from her role in Bear’s death? Or was it just to protect their reputation as bankers? Seems like your kid going missing at a camp you run is also not a good look, but I don’t know
. I guess I still have substantial questions about some of the plot but I'm hoping to discuss it with others to see if I can understand a little more. Lately it seems like I've been finding with mysteries, especially if they're compelling, that just learning the answers doesn't quite satisfy the questions I start with.
