The Cruel Prince
by Holly Black
I tried hard to finish this book. It got super hyped up on tik tok and I had really strong hopes for it.
I made it about a quarter of the way through, and I just can't do it (plus the library loan is about to expire so I can't renew it). It had a really interesting concept and a very strong opening premise; fae killing the main character's parents and taking her, her human sister and half fae sister away...ripe with potential plot! I was very intrigued on where it was going to go and there were lots of possibilities.
Then it just got strange and kinda lackluster. It appeared to me like the author thought about going one direction and then changed their mind and decided to follow a different plot. (Almost like when you and three of your friends decided to write a story in middle school by each taking a turn but everyone has different ideas of where the story should go and how the characters will act).
Maybe I'm just getting old, but I also found some of the characters just obnoxiously young and kinda dumb.
Maybe I'll try this book again one day, but it's not for me.
