The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
by Taylor Jenkins Reid
While I think Reid is well-meaning in trying to tell stories about diverse people, including members of the queer community and survivors of domestic abuse, it comes off as very fake, shallow and intrusive at times. For me especially anytime the main character would discuss her experience of being a biracial black woman, which weren't even really discussions just comments laced throughout the book, I felt icky. I loved Daisy Jones and the Six so I was disappointed with this one, even when it tried to meet the diversity I wanted in Daisy Jones.
Moderate: Alcoholism, Domestic abuse
Minor: Homophobia, Suicide
