Overthinking About You: Dating with Anxiety, OCD, and Depression by Allison Raskin

emotional informative inspiring reflective medium-paced

4.0

Both lighthearted and informative, Raskin explores connections between anxiety/depression/ocd and relationships through personal anecdotes and scientific insights.  No book about relationships will be fully applicable to every reader, but this overview balances general advice and insight while pointing to further resources to consider more specific circumstances.  A useful read to challenge assumptions and historical/cultural expectations about how to date and how one "should" feel in a relationship.  Told with a lean towards readers who might identify with her experiences as a white, cisgender woman, but there are some perspectives included to widen the scope, like insights from a therapist working with men's mental health, or approaching sexuality as a spectrum including asexuality.  There are basic but important reminders of healthy expectations for any relationship, even beyond the focus on dating/early romantic connections.
