The Hollow by Jessica Verday

I really, really wanted to love this book... but I just didn't. I liked it, don't get me wrong, but this isn't necessarily a book that I would gush about to a friend or fellow bibliophile.

Abbey seems realistic enough and I liked Ben and even Caspian, when he wasn't being wishy-washy, but the story seemed to have gotten bogged down in the minutiae. Details are wonderful when they move a story along, though not so much when it seems to stall a story in the middle of the novel.

I had a feeling that Katy and Nikolas were not who they seemed to be and I had a feeling Caspian wasn't as well, but I expected him to be the ghost of a young Mr. Irving and not who/what he ended up being. I also didn't expect that the resolution of Kristen's death would be dropped in the end since it seemed such an integral part of the story.

I just felt as if there was all this build up with Kristen's diaries, Caspian and the issues surrounding their relationship, Katy and Nikolas appearing out of nowhere, and the budding friendship with Ben that sort of fell flat in the end.

And though this isn't a stellar review, I will likely read book two just to figure out book one.
