When a deep sea explorer, Leah, returns home after a mission that went wrong, her wife Miri notices that Leah has come back not quite the same. As time goes by Miri notices Leah is slipping away from her, unresponsive, sitting in the tub full of water hours on end. This is a story of love, loss, grief, change and the depths beneath us.

It’s been a tough reading year for me. I’ve been struggling to get through books, leaving them half read, my interest slipping away as I turn the pages. Imagine my surprise when I picked this up and couldn’t put it down.

The haunting writing and mysterious plot really drew me in. I didn’t even realize this is technically a horror but as the descriptions unfolded, I was transfixed. I really liked the slow meander through the past and present, both a look at the beginnings of their relationship and their current state. I wish there had been just a tad more about the deep sea horrors.

Beautiful metaphors, haunting descriptions and an unsettling feeling really brought this book together. I had the opportunity to watch some horror movies on the plane but I chose to keep reading instead, 5✨. Highest praise if you ask me.
