Ready Player One
by Ernest Cline
I really enjoyed reading this book. The 80’s pop culture references were fun/funny, and the main character was very relatable. I also liked how not farfetched it all seemed. While reading this book, I was constantly reminded of it/making connections between life today. For ex when I saw a commercial for a new and improved leap pad, some ipad like device designed to teach little kids, I thought about how he said he learned best inside the OASIS. I think the whole theme is quite relevant for today’s society, and how technology is growing more and more omnipresent/infiltrating the way we do/think about absolutely every aspect of life. I admit it was super convenient the way Og showed up to offer his fortified palace in Oregon towards the end, but I’m always a sucker for happy endings, so I didn’t mind the way it all ended. I like the idea that in the end, <3/human interaction are awesome enough to make even the most diehard OASIS fan want to stay IRL.
