About halfway through, I chose to let go of my expectations of this book being a literary success and instead chose to view it as a tour book and brief history of Paris told through narrative. In this way I found it quite enjoyable. But the characters were not particularly well developed, the plot was meandering, and, on its whole, the book was far from revelatory.
I would recommend for all foodies and anyone interested in Paris culture (especially related to Shakespeare and Co!) or visiting Paris, but would caution that you keep your literary expectations low.

Graphic: Pedophilia, Sexual assault
The protagonists trauma is explicitly described but the character is never given the opportunity to process it, nor is her abuser(s) ever really held accountable.
