I absolutely loved this book. I have high expectations for Rachel Hartman, and as always, she exceeded them. This author has a way of reaching into my heart and addressing the things that are hurting in a way that makes me feel less alone. I don’t know how in the world she has this gift, or if by chance her books just come to me when I need them, but I am so grateful.
Shadow Scale is an excellent companion to Serafina. We learn more about Serafina and about the other half dragons, and extend our cast of characters. There’s a wider political story and a minor underlying love story as well. The villain is formidable, the protagonist flawed and admirable, and the world building extraordinary. I effortlessly recommend any Rachel Hartman book, and Shadow Scale is no exception.
