Anzaldúa attempted to make a case for a new identity in order to argue for better conditions, but fell into the same patterns and pitfalls that mestizaje was predicated on. Thus, it necessarily cannot be a unifying or correct theory. It was a writing of the time, and it ended up not standing the test of time.
