Never in a thousand scenarios, could I have predicted this ending! It jumped right out of nowhere that my first thoughts were that the author just wanted to bring the story to an end, but it probably has more to do with the fact that I just didn’t want to accept that this is how it ends.

That said, as far as the rest of the book is concerned, Appiah truly did write a hell of a book. I love that she tackles the peculiarities and challenges that motherhood and marriages present for women in today’s world especially for people from cultures were women are naturally expected to feel fulfilled upon becoming mothers.

It’s a much heavier read than I could have anticipated and like I said, that ending broke me.
