I utterly ADORED this book from beginning to end. A travelling minstrel is telling a bunch of bigwigs the tale of the Fell Wraith. If, within it, his audience sees how unfair the feudal system is, and how impossible it is for bonded villeins to escape it, that's not down to the storyteller. And if, within this book, the reader draws parallels to aspects of modern day society, that's not down to the author, I'm sure. There are laughs a-plenty, but it also gets very dark in places. Lovely stuff.
