I have so many thoughts.
Family dramas are my favorite genre of book and this didn’t hit the mark for me. There were SO many, too many shocking events and not only did it feel like overkill, but it felt unreasonable. Yes families drift apart but to this level? Without a care? Maybe my privilege from growing up in a tight-knit family is showing but often times the characters felt impossible to relate to.
Halfway through the book I also felt really bored, which made no sense considering the pace at which new insane events continued to be introduced. Some crazy parts were zoomed past and I had no time to sit with anything as a reader.
I liked the last 30% of the book as things were finally working towards closure, but it was too late (both in the book and the characters lives)!
If you want a similar vibe but handled muuuuch better, I recommend The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo.
