Ink and Bone by Lisa Unger
3.0

I liked it. Quick read, well written, interesting characters. But....it felt like I'd read this before. Not literally, just plot wise.

The beginning captured me right from the start. It was scary and the world was unknown. Then the paranormal element came into the story and I was like, 'ohhhh, yea, I likey!'. Finley is a fully developed character and enjoyed reading about the young woman trying to find her place in a world that doesn't understand her paranormal abilities. This twist helped the story differentiate itself from others and provided the depth I was looking for.

Where I felt daja vu was in the kidnapped daughter and the mother who wouldn't give up. It was reminiscent of novels with the same type of storyline, so during Merri's storyline (a grieving mother trying to locate her kidnapped daughter) it felt like, been there done that. I started just skipping her storyline and I found I enjoyed the book more.

It's a good read and I'll definitely pick up more of Ms. Unger's The Hallows series. I want to go on that journey with Finley!
