The XY by Virginia Bergin
2.75
slow-paced

The concept was intriguing, with a gender-divided society and the introduction of a boy and a girl who had never seen the opposite gender. Unfortunately, the main characters were one dimensional and not very likeable, with the exception of the grandmama Kate, and the story was heavy handed with stereotypical gender tropes of women = peace and men = violence. The middle of the book also dragged, and then the last few chapters were rushed and didn't really show or explain how things happened; it was more like the author was just trying to wrap up the story without making it actually work and make sense. I struggled to finish this book and I was left feeling very unsatisfied. 2.75 stars only because the concept is interesting and Kate and the other grandmamas amused me.
