Sierra as always does a great job at writing horny angst, I think it’s the narrative framework that’s lacking here. Conceptually I think that the ritual elements are really interesting but it doesn’t feel like we’re doing them for logical reasons. It feels like the missing mom plot should play a bigger role but it doesn’t do as much as it could. With the kinda flimsy plot I wonder how this will work as a series. I’m interested to compare this series to St Gibson’s Savage Blooms which feels like it might explore similar concepts.

I also picked this up on audio and this story would really benefit from having multiple narrators but that seems to be a pivot the series took in later books.
