Can't Get Enough by Gena Showalter

Review

It was a joy to read Brock's story and to finally get more insight into his character. A character I've been wanting to read more about ever since he made his first presence in book #4, Can't Hardly Breathe. And I desperately wanted Lyndsie to have her happily ever after as well, after everything that has happened to her in the past years. These two characters have always shared a sizzling attraction right from the start, but each of them had too much to lose to give into it. In Brock's mind, Lyndie is too sweet and good for the likes of Brock. And in her mind, Brock is too much of a playboy to give Lyndie the future she craves. But then Brock brings her a proposal she can't deny; a marriage of convenience. He needs a wife that he trusts and can later divorce fuss-free in order to claim his father's company. She'll agree to it if he gives her what she ultimately craves; a baby. Each gets what they want with no strings attached with the agreement to walk away from each other at the end. But nothing is ever really that simple when it comes to feelings... And Gena Showalter is a writer-goddess when it comes to meeting my high expectations for a fast-paced, explosive and great contemporary romance read; she delivers yet again!

"The characters are – as always when it comes to a Gena Showalter book – so realistically written and interesting right from the start. They are the beating heart of this wonderful story!" - a quote of mine from the Can't let go review which perfectly summarizes how I feel about the main characters in this book as well.

Brock, Brock, Brock... What's not to love about him? Okay, so he has some commitment issues and wasn't planning on attaching himself to a woman for the rest of his life. Until Lyndie and their fake marriage happened to him, BOOM. Brock's world gets turned upside down and I loved reading about him falling for this woman. This stubborn woman, desperate to remain unattached, even during their times trying to conceive a baby. And Brock's definitely showing his soft, romantic side in this book and omygoshhh.. It definitely left me a puddle of melted fangirl, right there. When Brock goes all in, he GOES ALL IN. So yeah, prepare yourself haha - this man is going to get under your skin, in your heart, just freaking everywhere alright? haha
You’ve enraptured me,” he said, his voice nothing more than smoke and gravel. “I would do anything for you.”

Lyndie is a character you may have come across in other romance books so far; she's the victim of abuse and therefore very untrusting towards men in general. And this one particularly HOT SPECIMEN of a military playboy is no exception. She isn't planning on opening up anytime soon for anyone romantically interested in her, so that makes Brock the perfect victim for what she's planning; conceiving a baby with someone and raise it alone. So she thinks she did a great job about making this deal with Brock by becoming his wife so he gets to hold onto the company his father left him and she'll eventually walk away fuss-free with a baby. So, she obviously knows Brock is hotttt, but when she's getting to know him better and gets under his skin, she finds it incredibly hard to hold up her appearance of not caring and of not showing that she's falling in love with him.
When she emerged from the bathroom, she discovered Brock waiting for her in the bedroom. His gazed roved over her and sizzled. "I hope you're hungry."
"Ravenous," she croaked. But not for food.
The merciless men ascorted her to the kitchen, and once again she jolted with shock and awe. He'd set the table with fine china. And he hadn't made taco's but taco soup, combining her top two favorites.
"I know you love soup, so I paid a local girl to make it." He sounded unsure and adorable and oh, wow, she really liked this man. Might even lo- Nope. No way, no how. She liked him. Liked, liked, liked. Nothing more, nothing less.

-- I mean, which man goes out of his way to get someone to make taco soup, to combine her two favorite meals? Brock is such a cutie pie!
I'm not afraid of commitment," he told her. "Not anymore. Marrief life agrees with me in ways I never imagined. You are my family. The one I've always wanted but never had. And I know - you crave your independence. You're afraid I'll become an anchor like your first husband, and drag you down. But I have no desire to clip your wings, Scottie. I just want the privilege of soaring beside you."

The humor and banter between these characters was easily my favorite part of the book and I had to laugh out loud on multiple occasions. From the adorable nicknames they give each other early on in their 'marriage', to their flirty text messaging and into the situations in which they're both trying to live together, getting to know one another better and just trying to get accustomed to each other's habits. He pushed and she pulled. She was strong when he was weak and vice versa. Gena is such a great writer and creates these couples in which both characters seem to compliment each other's inadequacies so completely, it's just perfect.

This book was yet again such a wonderful, lovable and funny read from start till end. Yep, Brock and Lyndie's story was definitely worth the wait and it may be my favorite of the series so far! The story’s pace was perfect and the chemistry between Brock and Lyndie was off the charts HOT! If you love the original heartbreakers book so far, you'll certainly gobble this book up as well, I promise! If you haven't read any books of the series yet and you love contemporary romance; Read the Books! Everything I've read so far from this series was such a joy to read. I can't wait to read the rest of the books I haven't read so far and I can't wait for what's more to come in the series <3
