My mom read this to me as a young girl, and I had a beaten up copy of this I read several times as a teenager, but this just hits differently as an adult.

It was such a nostalgic experience reading this again. It’s a story that definitely must be positioned within its time and context given some of the archaic and ‘preachy’ moments, but there’s so many modern day lessons that stand the test of time, reminding me of why it holds up as a classic to this day. Reading this now knowing that Louisa had to marry off Jo at the end of the book for it to be published back in the 1800s, really makes sense to me for Jo’s arc.  It’s a lot of things, but to me at its core Little Women is a story of the strength that comes with being surrounded by love, support, laughter and imagination, and all the fascinating, beautiful complexities of being a woman and a sister.
