Children of Eden by Joey Graceffa

Fun, smart… frustrating

This is a fun book. Which is weird because it takes itself really, really seriously, and the topics it broaches (environmental destruction, eugenics, class warfare, among others) are likewise serious stuff. It's great to read a book with a capable, bold girl at its center. It's gratifying to see an unflinchingly bi character portrayed in a YA novel. The frustration comes in the ending… or lack thereof. It's clear this is first in a series, but only around the last few pages. While I don't object to serialization, the last few pages cast doubt on every single central question of the book. I feel like if you're going to write multiple books in series, make sure you actually finish a story within each, and answer the questions it asked.
