The Strike at Shayol Ghul by Robert Jordan
3.0
This is a very short story that details some of the events that lead to the Dark One's emprisonment and the tainting of Saidin, in the form of a historical document. It's just a bit of worldbuilding, but one that works pretty well, and goes with Jordan's style of writing conflicts based on gender differences.
It's not essential in any way, but a fun read for those who want to take a deeper look at Randland's history.
