I'm glad I held on because the beginning was strange.

Let me elaborate on that. At the beginning, I was thinking I might give this book three, or at most, four stars. I'm not sure that I got Maverick's behaviour, and why did he even go to the funeral if his grandmother abandoned him. And, of course, when it turns out everything is not as it seems, I would have though he would either be interested in answers or completely flip out when mentioned and shut it down. He kind of went somewhere in the middle.

Another thing I don't understand, if Beau was so in love with Mav and thought about him all these years, why didn't he try to find him and reconnect? It's not as if we're living in an age where that would be extremely easy, especially while they're both in the same country.

It all works out in the end, and they of course figure out where the both of them will settle down (spoiler alert, not where you're thinking). Of course, there's some tiptoeing around each other's feelings and misunderstandings, but that's par for the course in a book like this.
