This book did not live up to the same standards as the first book did, but!! My favorite dragon made up for it.
Pros: more Lawrence and Temeraire content. political intrigue. cool world building in China. very cool dragon lore. more Lawrence and Temeraire content(their relationship is so good I have to list it twice), and!! Cool gun fight sequence
Cons: we were on the damn boat to China for SO LONG. And then the pacing was a little weird and the political intrigue was a little too far in the background.
But, all in all it balanced out to be pretty solid. Maybe it did take me four months to read, but really I read most of it in a week and then came back to it a week later. In my defense, I was trying to really get a similar experience to what Lawrence felt being on that damn ship for months. (ugh.)
3.75/5, will continue to read the series.
