dark emotional reflective sad

Ducks depicts Kate Beaton's two year stint in the Alberta oil sands, and it does so, so honestly. There is a real sense of loss, right from page one, where she has to leave her beautiful home town in order to make money. The place that she is headed to is bleak, lonely, and filled with sexual harrassment. Beaton does a phenomenal job showing what it's like to be a woman in a male dominate field. She shows us what it is like to be in a place that you don't want to be, because you feel that you have to, all the while longing for her home that will welcome her back with open arms once she returns.
