Extras by Scott Westerfeld
3.0

Actual rating: 2 stars - I always add a star for YA books since I am not the target audience.

The original trilogy left off in such a way that a fourth book wasn't necessary. Fortunately, Westerfeld knew this, and chose to make this addition to the series a focus on another part of the world that was not a setting in the first three books.

Extras takes place in Japan after the Diego War, so that the readers are able to see that the events of the third book had global impact. The way that different areas of the world recover from the War are juxtaposed, providing an interesting perspective about our own world and what different cultures find important.

Overall, I read this because I loved the Uglies series in junior high, and I have always admired Westerfeld's abililty to craft dystopian societies. But if you can only read the first three books, you are not missing out on this one.
