I wanted to like this so much more than I did.  The magical pup was the highlight for me the rest was just a bit bland. We don’t get a whole lot of back story on the characters until over the halfway mark so it was hard to feel invested in them at all. 

They also felt quite immature for the age range they were supposed to be and the life experiences they had. Aside from their relationship nothing else is ever resolved.
