Henry V is the tale of what it means to be British, despite being full of the Scottish, Welsh and French. It's the play that makes us want to forge ahead and make something of ourselves, as the young King succeeds in doing.
I read this play because it was recommended to me and I am so glad that I did. It's a play about honour and integrity, absolute propaganda, but Shakespeare sure knew what he was doing. The characters are richly developed and you almost want to charge into battle with Hal, for Hal, for all of England, you want to fight the French and win despite being vastly outnumbered.
This play is a history and tells of real life events but is infused with humour throughout and one of the most incredible innuendos I think I've ever read. Leek, anyone?
