Rainbow Valley by L.M. Montgomery
5.0

I consider [b:The Complete Anne of Green Gables Boxed Set|3579|The Complete Anne of Green Gables Boxed Set (Anne of Green Gables, #1-8)|L.M. Montgomery|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1267721500s/3579.jpg|7365] one of my favorite series, which probably isn't allowed because I haven't even finished it. But I've devoured the first and third so many times, and I just love Anne and Gilbert and company so much, so I say it anyway.
I was avoiding these last two books because they weren't centered around Anne. I fell in love with her and Gilbert, and the journey the first 6 books took me on was simply wondeful. And I just didn't want anything ruining that fuzzy feeling I have in association with these books.
But obviously I couldn't go my whole life with out reading these. The problem was, when I started this book, Anne's kids, the manse children, and ESPECIALLY Mary Vance really annoyed me. I have trouble tolerating kids ages 6-10, who aren't necessarily cute anymore, and now have the ability to be loud and voice opinions and stir up trouble. They really grew on me by the end, though! And the little tidbits from Anne and Gilbert did help me get through the bothersome parts.
Also, L.M Montgomery could write anything and I'd read it. Her writing is gorgeous and poetic and it really takes me back to my too-short visit to P.E.I. Such lovely writing. I finished this book up on a plane, and it was the only thing that distracted me from how gross and sick I felt during the ride!
The reason this book gets five stars, though, is John Meredith and Rosemary West. At first, I felt like I was almost betraying Anne and Gilbert for fawning over a new romance so much, but Montgomery sure knows how to write them, complete with some conflict, obstinance, and an ultimate happy ending. Such a freaking cute plot line.
I'm officially excited (but also sad) to read the next book. Luckily, I stocked up on many of L.M Montgomery's books while I was in P.E.I., so I have a steady supply of her transporting writing.
