Resting Witch Face by Juliette Cross

4.75 ⭐️ “You’ve always been my queen, Juliana. You always will be.

I cannot put into words how much I loved this book. I already had high expectations because Jules and Ruben are probably the most anticipated and teased couple in the entire series, and this absolutely delivered.

Jules and Ruben started dating and were quickly falling for each other 12 years ago, when everything started to get in the way until, eventually, it did. Now, over a decade after their separation, which was an amalgamation of different situations and mistakes that left them both heartbroken, Ruben has decided to take back was he’s always known to be his: Juliana’s heart.

I’m the biggest fan of enemies to lovers, soul mated supernatural romances, so this book was so up my alley it was ridiculous. Well, this was more lovers to enemies to co-workers to lovers… but I loved every page. The pinning, the anticipation, the grovelling… The spice. I loved Jules as a heroine. I’ve loved her in all the other books I’ve read from the Stay a Spell series, and I couldn’t wait to see her as a main character and oh, god was the wait worth it! And Ruben – swoon I think he might be my favourite hero in this series, Gareth being a close second, but his love for Jules was so important, so monumental to him. Living without her for so long, having her at arms length but never being able to hold her again… Their reunion felt like reading someone breathing fresh air for the first time after almost drowning. And the grovelling…

“I’ll take anything you’ll give me.” Maddenig desire radiated from every part of him. Then he dropped to his knees, his hands gripping my hips. “I’ll beg at your feet for a pathetic glance, a simple touch.” He coasted his open mouth across my belly, searing me through the thin fabric of my gown. “I’ll be your slave. Anything you want, Juliana. Just put me out of my goddamn misery”.

I could've screamed after reading that! Their understanding for each other, the fact that they had both learned through their time apart and the mistakes they’d made allowed this book to be so, so great. Then, of course, Ruben is a vampire overlord, so he got quite possessive and domineering when it came to spicy time, but the rest of the time he understood that Jules would accept nothing short of her equal - which is probably my favourite thing about this book. Love is never an excuse to disrespect or undermine your partner, and you should react accordingly if that is ever to happen. Both Jules and Ruben made mistakes, but reading about their reunion was so sweet, and reading about how much better suited to each other they are now… It's just wonderful.

There were a couple details in the story that I didn’t really appreciate
Spoiler like, for example, the fact that Ruben kept from her that they were mates, and then let her feel like shit for sleeping with someone else even when he knew it was akin to torture for her
and a couple of grammatical/spelling error that keep me from giving Resting Witch Face a full five stars. But it’s soooo close… that I’m obviously rounding up.

Absolutely amazing book! One on my favourite reads of the year!
