Papillon by Henri Charrière

5.0

What hell.
What an adventure though.
Papillon goes through some nasty stuff. It's almost like the Martian's Mark Watney-esque survival story, in which every bad thing that could happen to a person actually does happen, but without the side-splitting humour. What Papillon does really well is it immerses you so deeply into the story that you don't realize you're reading. Multiple times I found myself to be binge-eating at unusual times of the day, only to realize it was probably because I was at a part where Papillon hadn't eaten for days... The amount of obstacles thrown at him throughout the book left me emotionally drained and yet I just had to keep reading to find out if he ever achieved his freedom.
At times bone-chilling. Other times, I was on the edge of the seat. Overall, I had trouble putting this one down and will definitely read again.
