It's finally here! I had to force myself to pause numerous times because I just wanted to devour this. Roanhoarse's strength is in the build-up, the anticipation...you've got these great character moments at the forefront, but you never forget that there are Bigger Things mounting quickly in the background. Fate pushing people, and people pushing back. I adored reading about Serapio's struggle to retain his humanity vs. fulfilling his (supposed) obligations. One of my favorite characters across all the books I've read, for sure.

We see much more of Okoa and Iktan in this book. I'm surprised by how much I like both of them; Iktan was surprisingly funny. Naranpa got a lot of development as well! I already liked her in Black Sun, but my goodness, I love how the path of the high and mighty Sun Priest has deviated. Characters who didn't interact with each other in Black Sun are now yoked together, and it's fun to see these new dynamics! Especially
Serapio and Naranpa
- I highlighted basically all of their dialogue. 😆I have to admit though, I'm devastated that
Xiala and Serapio didn't get to reunite. Are you kidding me?! I'll have to wait for the next book for them to even glimpse each other! 💔 Also, I'm heartbroken about Denaochi. Whyyyyyyy :(

Lots of political intrigue here. It might be confusing if it's been some time since you've read Black Sun, so I suggest reading a recap, at least. Fevered Star does feel more meandering even though it's shorter, and I was a disappointed with how quick the climax was.
I wanted the Serapio/Naranpa duel to go on for much longer! Come on, they're vessels of gods...give me a legendary battle!
So...it isn't quite perfect, but I'm definitely satisfied. Now to sulk in a corner while I await book 3.
