Anne's House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery

2.5

It was rather boring during the first half, since it mainly focused on introducing all the new characters, but it did pick up in the latter half. None of them was as loveable as the original cast.
My biggest problem is the same as many others, which is that I don't like the domestic Anne. I know it was very natural back then, that women gave up their ambitions for the sake of becoming a mother and house wife, but considering L.M. Montgomery managed to be a wife/mother and an author at the same time, I don't understand Montgomery's choice. It felt like such a betrayal to have Anne rejecting the idea of writing her neighbour's biography and instead find someone else to do it. Even though Gilbert encouraged her to do it, she argued against it because she basically only knew how to write silly little stories for kids. That is not the Anne I know and love!
