I had fun reading it, but it almost seems like reading fanfic of another work. There's very little character development - people are just put in Situations, where they exchange charged glances and pin each other's arms back and get the literal or mental equivalent of a sexy scrape on one cheek. There are a lot of very cool ideas in the magic system and about the characters' backstories, but a lot of the characters are very similar archetypes that all have similar flaws.

Like oh ok, so she's a plucky heroine with a unique magical gift and a dark past? And HE'S a tortured magician who hungers for power but is ~conflicted~ because of something in his equally mysterious past? Crazy stuff man, which of the

characters each of these apply to are going to bone each other first?
