19 Love Songs
by David Levithan
As someone who loves music, I found the format of this book intriguing and interesting rather than your classic short story format. I also loved the variety of formats of story and poems and prose along with a fun comic. I did not love all the story's and I didn't think it was as good as Levithan's other work but i loved enough to enjoy the book immensely. I also loved the variety of subject matter and different types of love the stories focussed on. I loved the organised stream of consciousness and almost letting go of emotions in 'The Mulbery Branch'. The sweet gesture and general heartwarmingness of Your Temporary Santa was lovely. Snow Day is definitely a story I'd read alone, I found the characters complex in a a short amount of time but also just wonderful and a beautiful representation of the happiness of simple time together. I also found The Hold, if a little confusing in the middle, a very interesting perspective I had not come across before. Finally, the end story 'Give them words' is aptly a very stunning collection of words about the celebration of words which when reading i treasured every word.
