It was fun to learn and grow with Beth, but I felt the ending was too abrupt. There are some tough topics considered throughout the novel — addiction (tranquillisers and alcohol), sexual assault of a minor (brief), the foster care system, and race. The only topic to get full closure is addiction at the very end. Mostly the novel felt more like a justification for the author to himself on why he was addicted to alcohol when he was exposed to tranquillisers at such a young age.
Graphic: Addiction, Alcoholism, Drug abuse, and Drug use
Moderate: Sexual assault
Heavy addiction issues using tranquillisers and alcohol. One minor, yet explicit sexual assault scene with a child.
