This is hands down the longest book I've ever read and, at times, I was regretting the commitment. One evening my husband asked me to explain what it was I was reading and, in laying out the story, I realised just how incredible it was. It reads like a modern novel. The prose is stunning. The characters (when you get your head around who's who) are wonderfully drawn. I'm never going to read it again - there's just too many stories out there to consume and this one took me over three weeks! - but I'm glad I invested. What a classic.
