I'm Glad My Mom Died
by Jennette McCurdy
dark
emotional
reflective
tense
medium-paced
“i’m glad my mom died” is truly a brutal read. it’s absolutely gut-wrenching and disturbing to read about the abuse mccurdy was put through, the dark side of the entertainment industry, and the child star life cycle—listening to the audiobook narrated by the author herself made it more so.
mccurdy’s writing is so clear and doesn’t leave much room for misunderstanding, which is an impressive achievement considering the complexity of the book’s themes of abuse, eating disorders, mental illness, and addiction. i’m left feeling both deeply disturbed by the descriptions of her past experiences and in awe of her recovery journey. this is an important book and it must have taken guts to create and share with the world. i’m glad she did.
