I had heard of this book before but I’m not really into Sci-Fi so I didn’t pick it up. However, I kept hearing about how fun it was to read because of its unusual, multimedia format and that the audiobook had a full cast and was amazing. So I had to check it out!

I was completely surprised and blown away about how much I really loved this book. I ended up doing the physical book and audiobook at the same time and it really helped in immersing myself into the story and the atmosphere.

So the story’s premise is set on two characters, Kady and Ezra. They were together but broke up and the day they break up is when catastrophe hits their home planet. An outside corporation ends up attacking their planet and killing their citizens. However some are able to escape with the help of a scientific and military based aircrafts. And then they try to get away from the invaders and make it to a jump gate that will take them to safety.

I really loved how Kady and Ezra were given their own abilities and were fully used to the max. Kady being a computer genius is helping to solve what’s going on and why her home was attacked. Ezra being good with coordination and spatial analysis was recruited as shooter in an assault pod. I think these attributes really fleshed out their characters and have them personality.

The first half was kind of slow and it should be because there was world building going on and we were getting introduced to the characters. But once, shit went down, it didn’t stop. I was constantly on the edge of my seat trying to see what happens next and what is going to happen to our characters.

A character that I ended up loving and didn’t think I would was AIDAN. I know he caused much of the havoc that was internally going on and killed many people but his character arc really won me over. He is artificial intelligence so he wouldn’t think the same way a human would. He sees things that humans can’t. However, ironically he starts to become more human as his partnership and communication with Kady goes on. I really liked their dynamic with each other.

I loved the little twists and turns happening and how I was constantly in suspense trying to see what happens next.
