karkomiot 's review for:
Poor Things
by Alasdair Gray
What a delightful novel! It has all the depth and intertextuality that's missing from Lanthimos's adaptation. Don't get me wrong, it's a super fun coming-of-age adventure movie and Emma Stone is a superstar, but it would clearly benefit from all the historical-geographical-political context. Most of the subtext is gone in the movie and it ends up being just text. A super fun one, but still. The novel also has that final part which puts the whole thing on its head and makes it (her) substantially less poor.
