I'll start this off by saying that I never really expected to like this series... I love science fiction, but I'm not a fan of military sci-fi or space operas, and I would categorize the Linesman series as falling into both of those. However, I have greatly enjoyed both book 1 and book 2 of the series; as with Linesman, Alliance is a great romp through the galaxy with fantastic world-building and interesting characters. If you'd enjoy Linesman, I would definitely recommend that you pick up Alliance. You are instantly right back into the action, this time with some new characters and, of course, new discoveries and intrigue. If you haven't read Linesman, I would recommend that you read it first before you read this one, as I think you really need that to give you the best experience.
