The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
5.0

There isn’t much new I can say. This is a beautifully written book that captures the time after the First World War. It speaks to the self-indulgence and moral decline of a certain class of people and continues to instruct us on how ‘not to be’.

And, Fitzgerald tells us this story so much better than Hemingway did in The Sun Also Rises.

“Every one suspects himself of at least one of the cardinal virtues, and this is mine: I am one of the few honest people that I have ever known.”

I am embarrassed to admit this was the first time I read this book. Why did I wait so long? Who knows? Now, maybe I should watch at least one version of the movie. Speaking of which, Jake Gyllenhaal’s reading was brilliant.
