The Almost Sisters by Joshilyn Jackson
4.0

Leia's beloved 80-year-old grandmother Birchie scandalizes her small southern town by letting loose a string of obscenities and shocking accusations in church one Sunday. Seems Birchie and her best friend Wattie have been hiding Birchie's diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia for quite some time. But the time has come to deal with Birchie's health, living arrangements and disposition of the family home. At the same time, Leia, a 38-year-old graphic artist/novelist, discovers she is pregnant from a one-night stand; and it's someone whose contact information she threw away the day after. Her stepsister, Rachel is dealing with a broken marriage, so Leia puts her own concerns on the back burner when she leaves Norfolk and heads down to Birchville, AL. Not only is Leia met with formidable opposition from Birchie and Wattie, but she soon finds out the ladies are hiding a secret that could send them both to jail. A fun read that deals with family, race relations, and sense of self. A good read!
