Viriconium by M. John Harrison
2.0

This book was Not For Me.

I've been curious about M. John Harrison for a while, and came across a used copy of this book. It's some of his older work, a pastiche of stories centered around a post-technology world and a city called Viriconium. It's one of those pseudo-fantasy books that's really dying-world science fiction.

The first story's writing is dense. It's not an easy read. The language is flowery, the pace is slow. I just wasn't motivated to immerse myself. Especially because, to my understanding, each story's style, time of setting, and emphasis is quite different. So my investment in slowly getting involved with this story didn't feel like it was going to pay off. Someone mentioned the writing as a bit like Michael Moorcock, and I'd agree with that. It's not my style.

I'll try some of the author's later work, but feel just fine setting this one aside.
