“You cannot pick and choose what parts of her to love.”

“She was the heir of ash and fire, and she would bow to no one.”

“The people you love are just weapons that will be used against you.”

Holy cannoli. This book really took a wild left turn compared to the first two books in the series. The world-building, magic system and political intrigue really took off. Some perspectives felt slower than others and it's not clear how at least one of them intersects with the rest but by the end, I was really invested in each perspective. Aelin's perspective was, by far, my favorite. I can't wait to find out what happens with her. I really love Rowan and also can't wait to see how his role in the series changes.

I really loved how  different this book felt from the first two (and the short story collection) but this one made the first two feel like hot garbage in comparison. I may have to change my rating for them. 😂 Much like the first two books, the first half of the book was slow. I especially struggled to get into Chaol's and Dorian's perspectives. Manon's perspective was really interesting but I wish we would have gotten a little more insight into how her story will intersect with the other perspectives. Mainly, however, I'm salty that I can't get the audiobooks for the rest of the series on Libby. Frickin' Audible. 🙄
