Dare Me Tonight by Carly Phillips

5.0

I loved this story so much! Tropes galore, and it was so fun seeing our old favorite Dare family in this Knight family series-ender.

Ethan Knight is the oldest of 4 siblings, and CEO of his family's technology company, but he has had a terrible year. A year ago his wife died of an accidental overdose. Apparently she was an opioid addict, after becoming addicted to pills after surgery. She was also embezzling money from his family's business, as well as cheating on him. And he didn't know any of it until she was already dead. She had been handling a huge project for the company out in California, and he was in NYC, so they had been distant before she passed, but that didn't lessen the shock at all. He's been in a perpetual sour mood ever since, which his family understands, but are finally starting to lose their patience with. He's been working hard to rectify the mess she made in California, while keeping all his other important projects running smoothly. He needs something to get his head back on straight, or he's going to drive everyone he loves insane. Enter a most unexpected surprise.

Sienna Dare is the baby of her family, of both her full, and half siblings. She survived childhood leukemia 15 years ago, thanks to a bone marrow donation from her half-sister Avery. But that whole episode blew up both their families, as their liar of a father was exposed for having 2 families, and everyone was left devastated. She's just graduated college, and is debating going to get her MBA in NYC. Her oldest half-brother, Ian Dare, calls in a business connection to be Sienna's escort for the weekend in New York, to explore the school, attend a reception there, and see if she's interested in living in the city. She expects it to be an informative weekend, and hopes it will make her decision about whether or not to continue with school easier for her. But, she doesn't count on Ethan Knight.

Sienna and Ethan had a strong connection from the first glance of each other, though neither of them were what the other was expecting. I loved their banter, and their easy discussions while they got to know one another. Both knew that they could only have one night together, regardless of what they each wanted. Ethan has a huge contract with her brother Ian, and he can't let anything derail it. Also, they live in different states, and Sienna still doesn't have her life or future figured out at all. But, of course, best laid plans often go awry, and they created something that will link them together for a long time to come.

Sienna was the first virgin heroine this author has written, to my knowledge, and I loved how believable it was that she still would be at 23, after the way her family was, and her childhood illness. She wanted to find the right guy who made her feel she was ready, and after spending the evening with Ethan, she knew he was the guy she wanted to be with for the first time. Their attraction was hot, and I loved watching them connect in a deeper way than they expected. Of course, there was a surprise baby, which was so fun, and I loved seeing her brother Ian's reaction to it all. His book came out many years ago now, but he's always been a favorite. He can be an overbearing jerk a lot of the time, especially as concerns his family, but he loves them so much. It took a lot for him to accept and truly come to care for his half siblings, after everything that happened, so I adored seeing his newly forged connection with Sienna, and how he began to treat her just as he did his other 2 sisters, for better, or for worse.

Ethan made some big missteps in his dealings with Sienna once he showed up in Florida. I cringed at times, and I was glad when Sienna wasn't just willing to take what he claimed was all he could give her. She knew she was worth more, and she let him know it. I like that even though she was young, she wasn't a pushover, and she never settled. Her family also made some errors in not trusting her to be the adult she was, and still trying to baby her when they shouldn't. She really worked hard to let everyone know that she could handle whatever life dished out, and that she expected to be treated equally with her siblings. Seeing most of the Dare clan, as well as the Knight family from the prior books, was a total delight, and I loved the way this book closed out the Knight family's series, as well as setting up a new series with the final untold Dare story, that of Sienna's brother Jason. He lives in NYC and owns a popular nightclub with his best friends. His story sounds so intriguing, and I'm looking forward to it next!
