This is my least favorite book in this series so far - I was pretty disappointed by it. We spend three years with Anne as she teaches at a high school, reading both her experiences as they happen and her relaying them to letter to Gilbert. There is very little time spent at Green Gables, and there is no interaction between Anne and Gilbert other than the letter exchanges that indicate they had visited with each other.

There were many times throughout this book that I found myself second guessing who I thought Anne was as a character. While there were moments where she connected with students who reminded her of herself, overall this book was focused heavily on the social aspects of the school and local community. She is constantly visiting and conversing or gossiping, and we get to see very little of Anne's true self and her own adventures. She felt like a character plugged into a community to fulfill a social role instead of Anne of Green Gables tackling the exciting task of educating and getting to know a variety of unique students.
