BRISEIS MY BELOVED !!!
I first read this in HS and cried my eyes out thinking it was the best book written.
It's been more than a decade and I have some thoughts:
1. Briseis I love you still
2. Patroclus is funnier than I remember
3. Madeline Miller's prose is as beautiful as ever
4. Odysseus steals the attention whenever he's in a scene to know one's surprise
5. ACHILLES' PRIDE. [essay here]
6. I love the pacing
7. As much as I like this version of patroclus and his relationship with achilles, I do think Miller took some creative liberties... especially with his fighting skills!!
8. +.25 with the Cleopatra section. More than 10 years later and that bit still blows me away
