Unworthy Republic: The Dispossession of Native Americans and the Road to Indian Territory by Claudio Saunt

5.0

This is a stunning work of scholarship that reads extremely engagingly and does a superb job in highlighting the injustices of the displacement of Native Peoples in the United States during the 1830s.

His use of sources is excellent and his writing style is very clear and easy to follow. This is a phenomenal historical monograph on this subject and deserves to be widely read beyond the context of a Master’s degree history program, which is the context in which I have read this book.

Saunt is truly a gifted scholar and this book should be required reading. I highly recommend this book for any looking to research Native American history or those that are looking to learn more about US History.
