The Girl with Silver Eyes by Willo Davis Roberts

3.0

I haven't read this book in easily 30 years, but when I found out that MPOW had it in our collection, I had to give it a re-read.

Imagine an America in J.K. Rowling's wizarding world, and imagine what the lives of young children whose magical powers are just revealing themselves might experience - the suspicion of Muggles, the difficulty families might have adapting to a powered child or sibling. This is EXACTLY what I thought of when I read this book, even though the source of paranormal powers was due to science and not heredity, and even though Jo Rowling would not go on to write Harry Potter into existence for another ten years.

It was fun to revisit this story on a rainy Sunday morning.
