The Diamond of Darkhold by Jeanne DuPrau

4.0

The fourth installment of the Book of Ember series brought me right back to the nostalgia and wonder of the first, as if the middle two books never happened. It had mysteries, travel, plans crafted by Lina and Doon, and some adults that provided help and insight along the way. In Diamond of Darkhold, the Emberites have been living in the town of Sparks for almost a year, and they have all been working very hard to survive with little warmth and food. Doon one day discovers, through a book traded from a roamer, that there was something more that the people of Ember were supposed to have from the builders of Ember and the civilizations of the past- so he and Lina set on on a journey to find it. Along the way they meet strange new people. get captured, make new friends, re-discover their old city, and find what it is that was meant to be their legacy. DuPrau's books all have the feeling of wonder, of a desire for the past, and a need to answer questions. This was a very fun and fast read, and I can definitely see myself re-reading this one in the future. Crossing fingers that this book will one day become a graphic novel as well!
